Pharmaceutical Waste Disposal Services
Summary
arch environmental group has developed a unique pharmaceutical waste management program that has not only "Made it Simple" but was developed with the same care for your budget as for the environment. The States of Michigan and Florida have made our program possible with the introduction and use of Universal Waste regulations. These regulations allow facilities (including medical care facilities) that generate hazardous waste to handle certain materials as Universal Waste. Pharmaceuticals are included on this list and have provided the following advantages that have been written into our program:
- Universal Waste volume is not included when determining the hazardous waste generator status for a facility. This may allow hospitals (and other health care facilities) to keep their generator status level at the current level upon implementation of this program (or reduced to lower level in some cases).
- Universal waste can be accumulated up to one year which is a longer accumulation time period than allowed for Small-Quantity and Large-Quantity Hazardous Waste Generators.
- Less labeling is required of Universal Waste.
- Universal Waste can be accumulated and transported together for various management options.

Program Goal
Unlike other programs marketed to health care facilities, arch environmental group's Pharmaceutical Waste Management Program has been developed to create:
- The least amount of work for your pharmacy and nursing staff while at the same time protecting the environment and staying within complete compliance of environmental regulations.
- Conduct ALL sorting by trained chemical technicians OFF-site and within a controlled and safe working environment.
- Provide all services at fair and reasonable rates.

Program Set-up
Program specifics and collection containers will be developed to your specific needs. arch environmental group will work closely with the Pharmacy to develop waste disposal data for each drug that will assist in the sorting that is ultimately being conducted by arch environmental group's chemical technicians. Container sizes and locations will be determined hand-in-hand with the medical care facility to position where the best utilization by the staff will occur.

Unique Program Features
arch environmental group is making a statement to the health care industry to "Make it Simple" because the regulatory agencies have made it possible. Utilizing the Universal Waste regulation, arch environmental group is capable of keeping costs at bay while at the same time limiting the extra burden already being realized by health care personnel. The following features are unique and available for use under our Pharmaceutical Waste Management Program:
- You do NOT need to train health care professionals how to segregate pharmaceutical waste
- It ALLOWS the professional nursing staff to attend to their nursing duties instead of worrying about proper segregation of pharmaceuticals.
- There is NO need to purchase multiple container (classification) types to be placed throughout the hospital when only one type can be used for Universal Waste.
- It REDUCES the amount of space needed for disposal containers.
- It PROVIDES disposal cost savings when treated as Universal Waste while STILL protecting our waters.
Michigan and Florida allow pharmaceuticals to be treated as Universal Waste. Our program is simple because the regulations were made simple to encourage the proper handling and ultimate treatment and disposal of these materials.
